The Short Answer: Yes! We love showing off our facility (located at 1507 Gavin St.). The Helm, our onsite shop is open weekdays 9-5:30 and 9-12 on Saturdays; folks are always welcome to watch the roast, grab roasted coffee, or enjoy a cup of drip. While we are a busy working roastery (watch out for forklifts!), we love to show off how the coffee is made. Plus our building has been renovated with some great sustainability features including toilets that flush with rainwater!
The industrial steel and glass partition in The Helm gives everyone a glimpse into the roast room while you sip your coffee and relax with friends. For groups, schools, or formal tours, please call ahead so we can set aside time to give you the full educational experience.
We are proud of what we’ve built on Gavin Street. Our three building compound is not just a factory; it’s a living science and art project.
Outside our pollinator garden is buzzing with bees and colorful blooms, while inside we are a humming roastery filling silos with green beans, roasting, packaging and shipping out the door. We believe that if you see the process, the roar of the roaster, green coffee arriving from around the world, the smell of roasting beans, you will look at your cup of coffee from a different perspective
More Than Just Coffee: An Education in Sustainability
We love hosting groups! And who doesn’t like seeing how things are made!
-
Where Food Comes From: Most people may not think about how those coffee beans ended up in the cup. We show the journey from the farm to the cup. We talk about the farmers, how the fruit was grown, and the hard work that happens before the bean even gets to Raleigh.
-
How Business Can Be Green: We show off our "Eco-Hacks" in action:
-
Passive Solar Design: See how we heat the building with sunshine.
-
Rainwater Harvesting: Check out the tanks that water our native landscape.
-
Compost and Gardens: repurposing our “waste” into compost that feeds our gardens and yours!
Planning Your Visit to Larry's Coffee
Because we are roasting daily, we need a heads-up if you are bringing a crowd.
-
For Individuals: Feel free to stop by to buy beans and say hi! We are usually there Monday through Friday and we have hot coffee on drip and a cozy palace to sit.
-
For Groups (Schools, Teams, Organizations): Please call us ahead of time. We want to make sure a team member (maybe even Sandro or me!) is available to walk you through and answer all your questions about organic farming and solar power.
-
The "Safety" Note: This is an active manufacturing zone. It’s loud, it’s hot, and it smells incredible.
