By Michael H. Brownstein
We had a ten hour layover in Japan,
left the airport and lost ourselves in the nearest city,
everywhere people rushing from place to place,
shops full of fragrant delicacies, a lust for life,
but we entered a place of quiet, on a busy intersection,
a Kissatens where coffee is made to order
hand dripped and full of an essence to joy.
This is where we soaked in a couple cups of coffee,
brewed slowly, a show off pour-over style,
so much worth the wait, the solace and peace,
we forgot ourselves, our ten hour layover,
bought one more for the road, no time for the train,
and savored every sweet drop slowly in our cab.
