By Karyl-Ann Roehl

I remember your tenderness,

The way you elegantly dressed

For church, for club, for the day.

Your laughter was infectious

Dinners always delicious

Prepared in love and thanksgiving.

You taught me about flowers,

About cooking and God’s powers

In which we place our faith.

We talked about forgiveness,

How to care for kittens

And living things in creation.

The time came when you faded,

Leaving both of us a bit jaded

About what we expected at the end of life.
