FIRE EXPOSED

By Duane L Herrmann
On a clear, still day

fire swept through,
a legal one –
springtime burning,
pasture was now cleaned.
From a gully
a stream of smoke,
some log,
or pile of brush,
still burning.
The farmer checked
and his surprise
found smoldering
on the ground
cloth,
remnants of clothes,
on a body
still.
